Cobble Hill Kennel is run by a grizzled farmer and two Middlebury College students. Doug, Ben, and Jules, have mushed all across North America and now work together taking care of 50 canine athletes. We race competitively and sell dogsled tours to help support these beautiful animals.
Doug Butler has worked on his family farm his whole life. On 1975 he saw an ad for a dog team in the paper, and he’s been racing sled dogs ever since. He’s one of the most notorious racers in New England in Quebec, known for being the only farmer competing against wealthy mushers.
Jules started dogsledding in high school when they were only 16. They’ve worked at dogsledding kennels in Fairbanks, Wyoming, and now Middlebury .
Ben learned to dogsled in the Canadian Arctic after graduating high school. He started working with Doug and Jules his first semester at Middlebury College and help’s run Cobble Hill Kennel’s tour business.
Doug is also the subject of a documentary, check it out at underdogfilm.org/
